A soft, commercial Pinot Noir, but a far cry from what James Halliday has previously produced under this label. Could it be due to the departure of Philip Dowell ( now winemaking in Canada ) or was it due to the season? Light brick red colour. Lifted aromas of cherry, strawberry and spice with a hint of game, but without any Pinot Noir power. The palate flavours are dilute, restrained with cherry, spice and strawberry flavours. Soft tannin, with subtle strawberry spice aftertaste. Cellar 2-3 years.

Southcorp Wines tasting notes: Conditions for the 1998 vintage were similar to those experienced in 1997 with a continuation of the El Nino effect - a very warm summer and a lack of rain. However, yields were higher than the 1997 vintage and ripening patterns unpredictable with the coolest parts of Australia doing best.Medium red colour with a touch of purple. On the nose there are plummy game aromas. The palate is medium weight with plum, cherry and a hint of game. Good structure, fine tannins with long aftertaste. Drink now or cellar 3-4 years. 13.7% Alcohol Volume.
