Located in the commune of Alba in the northern region of Piemonte. The Bernardina project was conceived by Ceretto in 1987 and was already being implemented the following year with the replanting of new vineyards and the transfer of wine-making facilities from the old premises in Alba to a large farmhouse under construction. All the existing vineyards that by then were old, were cleared and in their place was planted Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Viognier. Some of these grape varieties were completely new to this area, but expectations were high as the correct climatic conditions and viticultural techniques would lead to success. Later, Nebbiolo and Merlot vines were planted in the place of the Viognier. The experimental project set out to demonstrate that even though the Alba region is well recognised as a fine wine growing area that new grape varieties could be imported to further make new wines of an international class. Today these experiments have become certainties such that the red varieties are used to produce a blended wine called the "Monsordo" and by law of Langhe Rosso denomination. The first blend of Monsordo was released in 1997. The production has by now achieved its definitive connotation and the Monsordo Bernardina winery has geared itself up, even technologically to tackle the wines small but prestigious production.

TASTING NOTES: A wine whose palate structure is very dry, and definitely in need of food. Very deep brick red colour with brick red hue. The nose is impressive, with lifted notes of cedar, truffle, spice followed by a hint of earth. The dry palate characters are very persistent with flavours of leather, liquorice, earth and spice emerging. Very dry aftertaste with hints of truffle emerging.
