1998 Bannockburn Chardonnay

Bannockburn has produced three unique wines from the 1998 vintage after a devastating hail storm wiped out 90% of the vintage. These wines were made possible by the assistance of winemakers from around Australia who contributed a supply of their own premium quality grapes. All three wines were made from the individual parcels by winemaker Gary Farr and kept separate only to be blended before bottling.The combination of these regional wines has produced a definitive blend. It reflects the old adage that the blend should be superior to its component parts. There are hints of lemon citric aromas layered with mild butterscotch barrel fermentation characters The palate is intriguing. It is delicate, perfectly balanced and the strident vineyards flavours are tempered by those with less intensity. The result is a seamless fruit flavour that works down and across the tongue simultaneously. It is a delicious Chardonnay. Although it is less intense than the single region wine, it still has the power of "the Bannockburnness" which is lurking in the background.
