1998 Balnaves Coonawarra Chardonnay

This wine reflects the outstanding 1998 vintage conditions. The warm and dry conditions enabled the harvest to commence three weeks earlier than in previous years. The fruit for this wine was hand picked over a two day period late in March and fermented in new Seguin Moreau Chagay and Remond Vosgos barriques. Twenty five barrels only were produced. Brilliant straw colour. Outstanding nose - a class act! Lifted aromas of roasted nuts, butterscotch, toasted oak, spice, yeast lees, fig, melon and toasted oak with just a hint of grapefruit. Excellent depth and complexity of flavours, clean crisp acid finish, followed by very long aftertaste of spice, fig, melon, nut and yeast lees, supported by rich creamy texture. Cellar 3-4 years. Stocks are extremely limited.
