1998 Abbey Vale Cabernet Merlot

A very well made medium bodied wine that will repay 3-4 years cellaring. Crimson mauve colour. Aromas of blackcurrant, spice, mulberry and violets. The palate has more weight and better mouthfeel than the colour suggests, flavours of plum, stewed fruit, blackcurrant and spice. Fine grained tannins, excellent length, followed by blackcurrant, liquorice and spice aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years.

Retasted

Medium bodied bright, crimson mauve colour. The nose is very appealing with aromas of spice, blackcurrant, mulberry and violets. On the palate the flavour of ripe stewed fruit and blackcurrant is dominant. Good palate weight with fine grained tannins, excellent length followed by blackcurrant, liquorice and spice aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years.
