Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz has established a reputation as the benchmark for Coonawarra Shiraz. It is produced from only the top 1% of Shiraz grapes available to Wynns each year. Even then it is only produced if the fruit meets Wynns stringent quality criteria. The wine was matured in a combination of new American oak and used French oak for a period of 12 months. This wine is a triumph of viticulture and winemaking displaying remarkable flavour intensity. Opaque crimson colour. The nose is a little restrained but yields some superb layers of aroma. Aromas of vanillin oak, coffee and blackberry are interwoven into a new sophisticated note. The palate is superbly constructed - all the components are integrated and held together by superfine tannins. Concentrated flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, blackpepper, toasted oak and spice. Perfect balance with exceptionally long aftertaste of blackberry spice and liquorice. Cellar 10-15 years.
