The Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch is the definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon - produced from the top one per cent of available Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and then only in the years when grapes of extraordinarily high quality are available. This is a world class Cabernet. Matured in French oak for 20 months. Opaque crimson colour. Magnificent nose of cedar and blackcurrant - verging on being perfumed. The nose is refined and sophisticated and its 'classy' nature is immediately apparent. Winemaker Sue Hodder has developed a definitive style for her Coonawarra reds and they are marked by excellent structure, and fine, firm balanced tannins. The wine has wonderful mouthfeel - and layers of complexity. Flavours of blackcurrant and spice are intermeshed with toasted oak and cedar. Cabernet at its best. Perfect balance and very long blackcurrant spice, cedar aftertaste. Cellar 10-12 years.
