1997 Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot

Made from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. The Cabernet component contributes berry cassis flavours, tannin structure and ageing ability. The Merlot softens the wine and adds suppleness on the palate. The wines were matured in French oak barriques for 12-18 months. Medium weight, delightful vibrant crimson mauve colour, with aromas of spice, violets, blackcurrant and truffle. The palate does not have the weight that the alcohol reading suggests, however, the flavours are intense and mouthfilling. The palate displays lots of ripe fruit character, with flavour of spice, chocolate, plum, blackcurrant and liquorice - excellent length and persistence. Perfect balance with fine grained tannins, followed by spice, pepper and earth aftertaste. Cellar 5-8 years. 14% Alcohol Volume.
