The alcohol level of many Australian wines is now around 14-15% Alcohol by Volume, whereas, in Bordeaux and Cote du Rhone 12.5% is more likely to be the case, and as a result they are perceived as being slightly lighter, drier and more elegant. Ask a Frenchman about his thoughts on an opulent Barossa Cabernet, and he will probably tell you it's too sweet and course - he may at the same time deliberately forget to tell you that the world has fallen in love with the voluptuous 'Aussie' style. Big fruit, bright sunshine and loads of obvious flavour is what the wine lover is demanding.Another very fine Bordeaux inspired Cabernet from St. Huberts. Opaque crimson colour. Lifted nose, with aromas of spice, cedar, earthy blackcurrants and cigar box - an impressive start to the palate! The palate continues to impress with distinct flavours of blackcurrants, liquorice, chocolate and cedar, with plenty of length and persistence of flavour. Super fine tannins which are dry and lingering, and well supported by the long blackcurrant aftertaste. An elegant wine that will cellar for 8-10 years.
