Central Victoria is regarded as one of Australia's best producers of exceptional shiraz. The 1997 vintage had a long ripening period which along with very low yields of around 1 to 1.5 tonnes per acre has resulted in fully ripe, concentrated wines.Intense, purple mauve colour - quite vibrant! The nose does not start off well and its hard to explain why, however, after 3-5 minutes to breath it clears of its initial farmyard, vegemite pong, to reveal aromas of toasted oak followed by inky blackberry, vanilla and black pepper. The palate has some leathery earthy flavours which are quite persistent. Good concentration of flavour, long toasted oak, liquorice and spice aftertaste. Cellar 5-8 years. 13.8% Alcohol Volume.
