The deep brick red colour of this wine is a little disturbing given the fact that it is only a 1997 wine. No sign of crimson or purple was evident which indicates a potentially high pH and a shorter than expected life. The nose is very appealing with aromas of cedar and blackcurrant followed by earth and truffle end notes. The palate is generous in its flavour, dominated by blackcurrant and plum with a chocolate, spice and aniseed end note. Very good length, fine grained tannins with very long earthy spice, blackcurrant and mint aftertaste. The palate certainly rescues the wine and it's worth cellaring a case, but on a conservative life span. Cellar 3-5 years.
