1997 Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz

Eden Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$120. 00
Bottle
$1440.00 Dozen
Cellar: 3 - 4 Years (2004-2005)
Closure: Cork

An outstanding wine with remarkable persistence of flavour, which lingers for minutes on the aftertaste. The vines for this wine were planted by Ronald Argas way back in 1920 and today they are still producing small parcels for this super premium wine. The low yielding vines are non irrigated.Henschke does not produce run of the mill wines and this wine is an expression of very refined Shiraz. The ‘fruit bomb’ flavours are missing – this is not your typical Barossa red.Medium body, deep crimson colour. Superb, refined nose, very aromatic, with notes of violets, confectionery, spice and ripe plums followed by a cedar end note. The palate has a wonderful degree of elegance, finesse and remarkable persistence. Flavours of prunes, cedar, spice and black pepper with hints of leather and earth. In spite of only being medium bodied, the palate has great depth, supported by velvet smooth tannins and exceptionally long spicy pepper aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years.
