Now independent bottlers have picked up where Macallan left off, with affordable, albeit sometimes younger whiskies, that promise an alternative introduction to the house style.
This Gordon & Macphail release was distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2015. Aged in various sherry hogsheads, both 1st fill and refill, the value for money here speaks for itself. Notes from G&M... Sherry influences with green apple, raisin and mango aromas. A beeswax polish note is present and combines with charred oak. Initially white pepper with ripe banana, nutmeg and date flavours complemented by dark chocolate and bonfire embers. Peppery on the palate initially with raspberry, cocoa powder and rhubarb flavours developing. An orange zest edge is present. 43% Alc./Vol.
