1997 d'Angelo Cannetto Aglianico IGT

Basilicata,
$36. 99
Bottle
$443.88 Dozen
Closure: Cork

Made from the Aglianico grape variety. This grape variety is said to be the oldest in Italy, having been introduced by the Greeks to Basilicata, some 27 centuries ago. This is a fascinating experience, and provides an insight as to the kind of flavours that the Ancients might have enjoyed. This wine is a single vineyard selection from the district of Rionero in Vulture in the Southern region of Basilicata.

Very deep crimson, brick red colour. Perfumed nose of confectionary, spice, raisins, hints of rancio, leather and plum. The palate has good depth with flavours of earth, spice, old leather and cedar. Fine grained dry tannins, followed by aftertaste of stewed fruits, truffles and leather. Cellar 2 – 3 years. This is the perfect wine with lamb, kid, braised red meats, game and cheese.
