The Gutturnio is the most ancient and famous wine of the Colli Piacentini. The name comes from a silver cup of Roman origin the “Gutturnium” found in the Pò River at the beginning of the 1800’s. It was one of the first wines to obtain the DOC in 1967 although had been considered a valuable wine since the early 40’s.

Grape variety: 60% Barbera and 40% Bonarda
Region: Near the town of Rovescala on the border between Lombardia and Emilia-Romagna.
Production: Traditional fermentation on the skins to dryness and a year in small oak casks before release.
Characteristics: A full bodied wine, which has a perfect balance of fruit and oak. It is lightly perfumed with aromas similar to forest berries and plums.
Serve: At room temperature with a light decant if desired.
Try With: Great with red meats, smoked meats, game and seasoned cheeses.
