Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is arguably Australia's most consistent Cabernet and is produced from vineyards long established in the heart of the terra rossa strip. The 1996 vintage was one of the coolest for a decade but a long, dry autumn allowed the fruit to reach optimal ripeness. The wine was matured for 13 months in a combination of new and aged American and French oak. Fantastic colour! Opaque crimson purple with mauve edges. The nose is classic Cabernet, displaying wonderful aromatic intensity. Aromas of violets, blackcurrant, spice and cedar, with a hint of dark chocolate in the background. Solid palate structure - a monumental Coonawarra Cabernet, capable of at least 10-15 years cellaring. Superb ripe blackcurrant fruit flavours, excellent depth, weight and concentration of flavour. Fine grained, dry tannins, firm yet in perfect balance to the huge palate fruit flavours. Long blackcurrant, spice aftertaste.
