1996 Petaluma Coonawarra Red

1996 was an excellent year in Coonawarra with the fruit able to achieve optimal levels of ripeness. Opaque crimson colour. The nose displays great complexity with aromas of spice, mulberry, violets, cedar and blackcurrant with a hint of liquorice allsorts. The palate displays a sophisticated wine, made from a blend of 66% Cabernet and 34% Merlot which has been matured in Nevers and Alliers oak barriques for 18 months. Beautiful balance with great depth and concentration of flavour. Confectionary, blackcurrant, cedar and spice are superbly integrated with the fine grained tannins. Excellent length with long blackcurrant, chocolate spice aftertaste. Cellar 8 - 10 years.
