1996 Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz

A classic Penfolds Bin 28. Originally the Bin 28 was sourced from the Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley, today, the wine is part of a giant inter regional blend. Full marks to the skill of the Penfolds Winemaking team in bringing the regional components together in a classic Penfolds style. The wine has been aged in old American oak, thus ensuring that the fruit remains very much to the forefront yet benefits from 12 months of barrel aging. Opaque crimson colour, with purple edges. The nose is impressive, lifted and a joy to sniff aromas of ripe plum, spice, vanilla, stewed fruits and blackberries, which reveal the perfectly ripe vintage conditions. The palate is full bodied with pronounced flavour of ripe plums, liquorice and a distinct blackpepper finish. Excellent balance, fine grained, dry tannins with long chocolate, plum, liquorice and vanilla aftertaste. Cellar 5-8 years.
