The traditional Rutherglen reds required a 'fork' to get through the viscous red liquid. They were often described as a three course meal with cigar included, however, in recent times there appears to be a stylistic change with the wines being made much more approachable earlier.A relatively subdued Durif. Well balanced but without the monumental inky qualities that have become a hallmark of the style. Opaque crimson colour. Aromas of chocolate and spice, with a hint of liquorice followed by some inky medicinal end notes. Generous palate with ripe berry flavours, lots of plum and spice - very well balanced with fine tannins giving the wine a very approachable character. Ripe cherry, plum and chocolate aftertaste. Cellar 8-10 years.
