Tasting notes sourced from Charles Melton Wines.

This wine is a blend of old vine grenache, shiraz and mourvedre and is Australia's answer to Chateauneuf du Pape. According to Charlie Melton if a Grenache has good colour then it will have all the other attributes one looks for - excellent nose, palate weight and length. The colour on the 1996 Nine Popes is excellent. This is a full bodied wine with less American oak being used than in past vintages and a higher percentage of French oak being used which results in a more subdued oak influence. The palate displays rich, spicy sweet fruit and with bottle age will develop sweet gamy complexity. Cellar 5 years. Stocks are extremely limited.
