1996 Balnaves Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

This Cabernet is from the first vintage produced in Balnaves new winery. Late picked Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Balnaves two best vineyards, the McWaters block and the Shed Hill block, were used in this wine. A combination of barrel fermentation in new tight grained French oak and long maceration on skins has produced in this wine, complex oak and fruit aromas, a finely balanced tannin structure and a long textured finish. An elegant Cabernet from a very good year in Coonawarra that will develop slowly over the next 8-10 years. Winner of one Trophy to date (Sydney).
