The 1995 Black Label Cabernet Shiraz is the 23rd consecutive vintage of this outstanding Australian red wine. The previous 22 vintages have won more than 160 gold medals and 40 trophies in major Australian wine shows making Black Label one of Australia's most successful wines. The fruit for Black Label is chosen solely on the basis of its intensity of flavour and potential for longevity. The regional blend changes each vintage according to the prevailing conditions. The current vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (54%) and Shiraz (46%) grown in 60% Langhorne Creek, 25% McLaren Vale, and 15% Barossa and Eden Valleys in South Australia. The individual parcels of fruit were de-stemmed and crushed before fermentation in American and French oak. After a warm fermentation to extract colour and tannin the wine is pressed and racked before maturation in new American and French oak for a further 30 months before bottling.Distinctive plum pudding, spice and chocolate are apparent on the nose while the palate is rich and generous with intense fruit flavours and vanillin oak characteristics. The palate is long, complex and lingering - a wine of undoubted class and distinction. Cellar for 5-15 years. 13.2% alcohol volume.
