The new arrivals of Vasse Felix Cabernet are always awaited with keen anticipation for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because it was the first vineyard to be planted in the Margaret River area (the Cullens would probably argue the point) and secondly, the wines have demonstrated a remarkable consistency of flavour and style - and what's more have maintained their quality/value for money ratio. A lesson that some larger producers need to keep in mind. Deep crimson purple colour. The nose is a little restrained at first, but after a half hour or so, yields beautifully. Blackcurrant, spice, cedar and violets fill the nose, with just a hint of mulberry. The palate displays excellent depth of flavour and lots of ripe fruit. Confectionary, plum, spice and hints of chocolate with excellent length and complexity. Fine grained tannin structure and long chocolate spice aftertaste. Cellar 10 - 15 years. Be quick - this years allocation is half of last years.
