Yet another new label to emerge onto the market. This time from an inspired pair of winemakers - Dr. Sergio Carlei and a Mr. Alan Blyton. The label is Vincent Van Gogh's "The Green Vineyard."The two gentlemen source the fruit from various vineyards in the Yarra Valley, with an emphasis upon the words "low yielding." Barrel fermentation has been used with new and one year old Allier and Vosges oak casks. So after that intro, what's the wine like? Bright straw colour. The nose has a complex and pronounced butterscotch and barrel ferment character with overtones of cashews, biscuits and yeasty lees. The palate continues to display the complexity with concentrated grapefruit and almond flavours totally filling the mouth. Good level of acidity, with very persistent barrel ferment flavours on the aftertaste.
