We must admit that we have always had a very close relationship with Chateau Guiraud, and we were the Chateau’s largest customer in the days when Sauternes could retail for $14.99 a bottle. They were the good ol days! Today Sauternes is back in vogue as the world has rediscovered the versatility of this great sweet wine. Made from botrytis affected Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and a touch of Muscadelle, the wines of Guiraud are capable of living a very long time. The 1995 vintage was excellent in Sauternes, generally rated at an 8/10 year with recommendations to lay the wines down for a decade or so.Very deep brassy gold colour, a superb visual experience. Outstanding nose with complex, layers of honey, raisins and apricots, showing excellent botrytis character. Mouthfilling, luscious palate just filled with layers of flavour - orange, apricot, toffee and prune. Outstanding length and persistence - dry finish with perfect balance, and very long aftertaste of citrus and toffee. Cellar 8-10 years.
