Tasting notes sourced from Southcorp.

This wine is from the historic Magill Estate Vineyard, located in the Adelaide foothills of South Australia. Magill Estate was the first vineyard established by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold in 1844. The vineyard is now 5.2 hectares in size and consists entirely of Shiraz vines, planted between 1951 and 1985. The vines are hand-pruned and the vineyard is also hand harvested. In 1994 the Adelaide region had a trouble free season, with mild conditions and timely rainfall which resulted in an excellent yield of very good quality grapes at the Magill Estate Vineyard. The wine was matured in new American and French oak barrels for 14 months. Dense, dark, brick red colour. The nose displays a rich and complex assortment of fruit, spice and tobacco aromas with underlying peppery, gamey characters and beautifully melded cedary oak showing hints of vanillin. The palate is full-bodied and shows fruit intensity across the whole palate with fleshy sweet berry fruit characters. Excellent integration of fruit and oak length and a delicate balance of very fine, lingering tannins. The 1994 is an excellent example of Magill Estate Shiraz from a richer year - more robust than the 1993. Cellar up to 10 years. 13% Alcohol Volume.
