The 1993 Yalumba Signature red, follows a long tradition of Yalumba's, in honouring employees who have devoted their lives to the company and created its outstanding wines. The concept of a Signature wine began in 1962 where the finest red from any vintage was set aside. The 1993 honours Bill Wilksch who is Yalumba's vineyard manager at Oxford Landing. Opaque deep crimson / brick red colour. The nose displays complexity, in part due to some bottle development. Stewed fruit aroma, plums, toasty oak and leather reveal a wine made from superb ripe fruit. On the palate the flavours turn to liquorice, chocolate, toasty oak, ripe plums and spice. Mouth filling, with good weight and fine grained, dry tannin structure, create a texture reflecting the ripe fruit. Excellent balance, with long plum spice and toasty oak aftertaste. Cellar 5 - 8 years.
