Maintaining the quality of the previous two outstanding vintages, 1992 was another excellent vintage for Shiraz in South Australia. Skilful blending of high quality components sourced from diverse regions has produced a complete wine in every sense.Penfolds St. Henri, like Grange, has established a tradition over many years as a wine renowned for its rich fruit flavour and longevity. The elegant St. Henri style, however, emphasises the fruit content of the wine rather than oak character. In contrast to other Penfolds reds, prominent oak is not an important element of the style. The was matured in large older oak casks for 12 months. Dense, plum-red colour. The nose displays concentrated, spicy Shiraz characters, hints of wild strawberry and boiled fruit cake complexities with underlying oak and maturation characters. This highly individual, fruit-driven red is full bodied, rich and complex. The wine has rich plum and spicy Shiraz flavours with traces of minty Cabernet and lingering, grainy tannins adding to the great palate length. The tight, classy structure and perfect balance between fruit, oak and tannin indicate that this wine has the capacity to age well and will repay extended cellaring for 10 to 15 years to develop into a classic, mature St. Henri in the traditional style. 13.5% alcohol volume
