Notes sourced from Henschke.

This semillon is produced from grapes grown in the Henschke Eden Valley and Keyneton vineyards. The grapes were handpicked at the end of April at 12' B. The juice was cold settled, cool fermented to 6' B and then fermented and matured for six months in new French Nevers oak hogsheads to achieve added complexity. The 1992 vintage was preceded by a late wet winter, although the yearly rainfall was 50mm below average. The mild spring was ideal for flowering and encouraged excellent berry set. A long dry cool summer with the coolest January on record delayed the harvest. Warm dry humid conditions during February led to a high incidence of powdery mildew, in particular on chardonnay. Despite the predictions being just above average, actual yields were only 10% less than the big 1990 vintage.Semillon is a variety that develops exceptional flavours with bottle ageing. The colour is deep gold with hints of green. The wine has a sweet floral bouquet of sandalwood, honey and ripe gooseberry with hints of toffee, malt and vanilla development. Displaying great intensity the palate is sensational with sweet toffee, citrus and honey flavours, finishing with great length. Excellent vintage, drink now.
