Notes sourced from the winery.

Petaluma Coonawarra is the product of 20 year old vines on Terra Rosa soil where careful foilage management and crop level control are reflected in the excellent quality of fruit. 1990 has been described as the perfect vintage producing rich and very concentrated ripe berries. The yield at Petaluma was very small resulting in very concentrated fruit. The 1990 Petaluma Coonawarra red is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot. This wine spent 2 years in new nevers oak barriques. The palate displays excellent structure with firm but fine grained tannins and plenty of ripe fruit. Excellent length - cellar up to the year 2000. Brian Croser rates this wine along with the 1992 vintage as the best Coonawarra red made by Petaluma.
