Notes sourced from Southcorp Wines.

This wine is from the historic Magill Estate Vineyard, located in the Adelaide foothills of South Australia. It is the birthplace of Penfolds and the first vineyard established by Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfold in 1844. The vineyard is 6 hectares in size and consists entirely of Shiraz vines, aged between 25 and 45 years, vintaged exclusively for the Magill Estate label. It is the only wine that is still fully produced at the historic Magill Winery, using the original winemaking equipment and traditional winemaking methods. The wine was matured in new Amercian and French oak hogsheads for 12 months. From the outstanding 1990 vintage, this wine reflects the ideal growing conditions and as such has a fuller structure and richer texture than its predecessor. Attractive, crimson-red colour. The nose displays spicy berry fruit character complexed with tobacco-like subtle oak. Although currently restrained, there is an underlying deep, powerful fruit character indicative of the wine's great potential. This wine is medium to full bodied and complex, showing spicy, ripe berry and cherry varietal fruit flavours combined with well integrated, charry oak characters. The full, richly flavoured mid-palate is afeature and is surprisingly soft, but quite concentrated, with gentle oak tannins, giving a long, lingering finish. The superb quality of this rare wine is a tribute to the winemaking team who have virtually 'hand-made' the wine from the vine to the bottle. Whilst it may be enjoyed now, this wine will age gracefully andhas the potential to develop great complexity and reward careful cellaring over the next 10 or 15 years when it will offer marvellous drinking pleasure. 13.5% alcohol volume.
