WINERIES TASTING NOTESRiesling is the classic grape variety of Germany and one of the earliest varieties brought to South Australia. Cyril Henschke developed the Henschke reputation for riesling wines as early as the 1950s from the vineyard areas of Eden Valley and Springton. These dry, food-oriented wines were clean and crisp with the ability to age into delicious marmalade on toast flavours, due to the cool climate of the Eden Valley region. This region provides excellent ripening conditions for the riesling grape. Eden Valley riesling has a unique track record of exceptional ageing potential.Superb spring weather with a good growing season and relatively cool to mild summer. The slow and late ripening of 1990's record crop produced wines with elegant fruit flavours, and good balance in respect to sugar, acid and flavour. The riesling grapes were handpicked at 12'. Be. To achieve maximum fruit flavours. Very good quality despite the highest recorded yields, due to excellent seasonal conditions.Riesling shows an extra dimension with bottle age. The colour is bright gold with hints of green. A sensational bouquet of citrus, lime marmalade on toast with hints of classic menthol/mint riesling development. A sweet fruit palate with soft intensity, great balance and crispness with a long lingering finish. Great vintage, drink now.
