1990 Douglas Laing & Co. XOP Xtra Old Particular Auchentoshan 30 Year Old Single Cask Limited Release Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

The Xtra Old Particular range represents well-aged single cask Scotch whiskies and exemplifies Laing's 'As Natural As It Gets' philosophy. In this case we have an unusually old Auchentoshan having spent thirty long years maturing in a refill hogshead. This distillery is rarely encountered over about 24 years old, with just a couple of historical bottlings exceeding the 40 year barrier. One of only three remaining (active) Lowland producers (Bladnoch and Glenkinchie are the others), Auchentoshan has managed to escape closure, unlike Inverleven, Kinclaith, Linlithgow, Ladyburn, Littlemill and Rosebank. Notes from the bottlers anticipate aromas of hard candy, vannilla'd barley with a thick, creamy, toasted oak delivery featuring candied nuts and green fruits. Pineapple chunks, golden syrup and creamy porridge enter at the finish. 56.2%. 298 bottles globally. Extremely limited stocks.
