Vintage Rose Champagne is only produced in outstanding years - the first vintage was 1955. Made from a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. 15% of the Pinot Noir is vinified EN ROUGE which accounts for the rather deep colour. The Pinot component not only adds colour but contributes to the flavour and body of the wine. The chardonnay component provides the acid back bone and contributes to the uplifted aromas of the nose.Deep salmon/ruby colour. Fine bead but beginning to be less active, suggesting that the Rose has only another 3-4 years bottle age. The nose displays toasty yeast autolysis aromas with delicate notes of strawberries and cream in the background. The palate is filled with the flavour of not quite ripe strawberries, and enhanced by a full creamy texture. The acid level is relatively high but in balance to the fruit. Persistent creamy strawberry aftertaste. A delightful wine - try serving it with rabbit, quail or squab. (Stocks are Limited)
