1985 Moulin Touchais
Texturally viscous yet dry, despite being 40 years old, it retains remarkable freshness through what is a long, luscious and expansive finish.
The wines of Moulin Touchais begin reaching their peak after twenty years, and many of the great vintages will take much longer. Vintages such as the 1953, 1959, 1964, 1969 are still maturing. The 1945, 1947 and 1949 have become classics. Moulin Touchais are the only winemakers in the world who give a century long guarantee on the longevity of their wines (subject to being kept under optimal cellar conditions). Bottles may show some sediment or deposit. One should understand this is due to the traditional filtration process, the main aim being to protect the colour, the bouquet and the depth of flavour of the wine.
Bright golden colour with brassy gold tinged edges. Leaping from the glass are exotic scents of honeyed apple, baked pear, quince, subtle toffee, light marmalade, dried nut and cinnamon spice notes. Rich, mouth filling and showing terrific intensity, the palate is drenched in honeyed apple, spicy quince and baked pear flavours with some delicate marmalade, toffee, traces of nut and cinnamon elements lending further complexity. Texturally viscous yet dry, despite being 40 years old, it retains remarkable freshness through what is a long, luscious and expansive finish.
Continue to drink this over the next 20-30 years.

Tasting note from 2004: This wine really demonstrates the aging potential and wonderful favour profle that these wines develop. Deep golden colour with deep orange gold hue. There is a hint of oloroso sherry like note at frst sniff, followed by hints of honeycomb and orange rind. The palate shows great power and concentration. Flavours of lemon, honey, orange and caramel emerge. Excellent acidity. Perfect balance. Very persistent aftertaste of caramel, orange rind, honeycomb, lemon and honey.

Other Reviews....
This amazing wine, gold in color, is one of the treasures that appear from time to time from the underground cellars of this great producer. It is old, but its sweetness has not been impaired by age. Rather the sweetness has become intense richness and intense acidity. The wine, full and opulent, is, of course, ready to drink.
