Notes sourced from Henschke.

Grape Variety: 65% shiraz, 25% cabernet sauvignon, 10% malbec grapes grown in the Eden Valley and Keyneton areas.

Background: Named as a tribute to an early English pioneer Joseph Keynes, who settled at Keyneton in 1842 and after whom the village was named. The estate blend exhibits complex fruit flavours and superb balance from the combination of low-yielding, ungrafted dry-grown varieties. Matured in new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads for 15 months.

Vintage Description: Good winter rains followed by a mild spring and a very mild long dry summer provided a slow ripening resulting in excellent quality wines.

Tasting Notes: Brick red in colour. Earthy, flinty with green herbal notes. Minty characters dominate the palate with firm chewy tannins.

Quality Assurance: This wine was assessed under the supervision of Stephen Henschke, winemaker of C.A. Henschke & Co.

Cellaring Potential: Exceptional vintage, drink now. Reviewed April 2002. Decant before serving.
Alcohol: 11.5%
