1979 Water Wheel Vineyards Vintage Port

This wine will completely fool you as to grape variety, for unlike most Australian Vintage Ports which are made from Shiraz, this wine is made from authentic Portuguese varietals - Mourisco, Preto, Bastardo, Souzao, Trousseau and Touriga. The wine was matured for 15 months in oak, prior to bottling. Bright, tawny colour, with onion brown hue. The nose is relatively restrained, with aroma of leather, prunes and rancio over a slightly caramelised brandy spirit end note. The palate is velvet smooth with the spirit now perfectly meshed. Flavours of caramel, brandy spirit and raisins are followed by a very dry finish. Portuguese like in its structure and finish, followed by a very long dry spirit finish.
