Jean Grosperrin initially worked as a Cognac broker, evaluating eaux-de-vie and introducing buyers. He now has a collection of atypical and rare Cognacs that he releases at natural strength. This is one from Fins Bois, a lesser known appellation that surrounds all three of the major crus making it the largest zone in the region (354,200ha). Chalky soils over a hard limestone base produce brandies that are known to peak fairly quickly, around 10-12 years, so they're often used to soften the harder edge of the better Cognacs when young.

Tasting note: [15ml sample] Dazzling deep gold. Woody nose-feel, with lots of dusty oak shavings, cinnamon and cedar in the opening sniffs. Deepens and richens with an enticing stone fruit aspect - dried figs, apricots and a touch of tobacco. Light entry turns superbly figgy, succulent and deep at the mid palate stage. Finish releases a flourish of dried apricot and warming spice. Ends woody with pencil shavings, hints of peach, fig, rancio and cigar box. A mature, full bodied Cognac with a rustic edge that should appeal to purists. 50.1% Alc./Vol.
