2015 Claxton's Exploration Series Benrinnes 8 Year Old Single Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

An eight year old Benrinnes that saw a long spell in a tawny port quarter cask. Fans of the style should jump on this. The wine pick up is beautifully captured on the nose as ripe grapes, prunes and apricots. On the palate the emphasis is on spiced figs, poached quince, hints of hazelnuts, dark chocolate and sweet spices. It's juicy, while maintaining a wonderful sweet-dry balance. Seldom do you find the fruits so harmoniously crystallised. A rare and winning combination. 50% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered. Tasted from a 30ml sample.

Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Heavy port notes with prunes in syrup, figs and malt. Palate: Sweet and juicy with more figs and oak. Dry but sweet. Finish: Long finish with sweet tobacco smoke and more figs.
