Whisky Galore Bowmore 16 Y.O. Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

The Whisky Galore range of Single Malt Whiskies is named in celebration of the famous incident in 1941 when the S.S.Politician, a cargo ship laden with whisky foundered off the Sound of Eriskay, off the West Coast of Scotland. The ship sailed into history and legend when her unfortunate demise presented the local islanders with an unexpected and irresistible bounty of ‘free’ whisky which was smuggled ashore. Today, the Whisky Galore company bottle a wide range of some of the finest of Scotland's Single Malt and Pure Malt Scotch Whiskies including sought after bottlings of Bowmore, Macallan, Glen Elgin, Scapa and more. Casks are hand picked for quality of spirit and age and remain in their natural form with no chill filtering or colourings of any kind.

Bowmore distillery was founded by John Simpson on the shores of Lochindaal in 1779 and was one of the first legal distilleries on Islay. The distillery operates traditional floor maltings and one of the distillery's warehouses was converted into the village swimming pool and is heated with waste heat from the distillery. Water is supplied to the Bowmore Distillery by the River Laggan

Tasting Note: Aged in a sherry cask, and the lush fruity notes add dimension and richness without masking the whisky's other flavors. Its flavors are reminiscent of crumbled peat thrown over a campfire; damp earh, anise and floral notes throughout, dovetailing with the lush sherried fruit. Smoky, briny finish. A well-rounded dram.
