The Shizuoka Prologue W was born from the distillery’s pioneering use of its wood-fired Pot Still “W.” Fuelled by locally sourced firewood from the forests surrounding Shizuoka, this unique still imparts a distinctive depth to the spirit. Crafted from a mix of Japanese, Scottish, and German malts—both peated and unpeated—and matured for three years in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels, quarter casks, and virgin American oak, Prologue W was released in December 2020 with a limited outturn of 5,000 bottles. The result is a vibrant whisky of honeyed malt, bright citrus, oak spice and subtle smoke, embodying the distillery’s innovative spirit and deep connection to its environment. 55.5% Alc./Vol.
