A point of entry to the Old Kempton range, the 'Old Stables' is a marriage of whisky matured in two casks: a 100 litre ex-apera and 100 litre ex-Pinot Noir cask. While the aromas are pure and soft, they're also fairly predictable - the Apera sniff leaning towards aromas of apricot tart, dried peach and light vanilla. Smooth, accessible and medium-bodied, clean malt-forward flavours and a spicy lift add presence to the finish followed by suggestions of dried apricots, orange spice cake and chocolate box. A genteel malt, with enough mouthfeel and flavour to be happily quaffable. 40.5% Alc./Vol.
