Mastersons 10 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey (750ml)

CANADA
$179. 99
Bottle
$2159.88 Dozen
ABV: 45%
Another selection from the 35 Maple Street Spirit Co., purveyors of Masterson’s Rye Whiskey and Bib & Tucker Bourbon (also listed on this site). The company actually resides in Sonoma, California where they hold the title of “spirits division” for The Other Guys (TOG) wine company.

This 100% rye is named after gambler, buffalo hunter, army scout, gunfighter and newspaperman, William “Bat” Masterson.

Tasting note: Brassy amber colour. Subtle peppermint top note over spicy ryvita biscuit; evolves unripe granny smith apple and sweeter spices. Nicely balanced with a fruity / rye combination that's medium dry, firm and rye bread like; more tart apple enters at mid palate. Finish is fresh, mildly tannic with leather and charry oak in the aftertaste. 45% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... [BATCH 3 tasting notes] The third recently released 100% rye whiskey sourced from Canada, with the others being WhistlePig (50%) and Jefferson’s (47%). (The one you purchase might depend on which one you can find, as they are all quite limited.) This one sells at a premium to the other two, but shows polish and is nicely rounded. Layers of sweetness (honeyed fruit, caramel, nutty toffee, maple syrup), toasted oak, cinnamon, evergreen, nutmeg, and a dusting of cocoa. Very distinctive! 45% Alc./Vol.

...Brilliant amber color. Dense, very spicy and complex, aromas and flavors of citrus-carrot chutney, exotic herbs, leather, beeswax candle, cocoa, and creme brulee with a supple, fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a long, generous finish with layers of flavor. Powerfully delicious and intricate.
