Ki One Tiger Single Malt Korean Whisky (700ml)
South Korea,
“Ki Wan” (meaning the beginning and hope) represents a range of pioneering whiskies from Three Societies distillery, founded in 2020 in Namyangju, South Korea. The name is derived from a three-way collaboration between Bryan Do, a Korean-American entrepreneur and Andrew Shand, a well-known Scottish distiller who worked at Glenlivet, Nikka and The Speyside distillery, together with a local Korean team. Since their whiskies have become better known under their Ki One moniker, they've retired the Three Societies name. The rebrand brings a refreshed logo that features the Korean characters of Du-Re. The bottle labels retain a traditional line illustration of a mountainous landscape, and if you look closely, you'll spot the distillery nestled amongst the hills of Namyangju. Malted barley is sourced from Scotland. Maturation is primarily in Bourbon barrels, followed by Oloroso, PX sherry, Madeira, Port and French oak. South Korea currently has no legal minimum ageing requirement for whisky, however, the Ki One range that's landed in Australia are a minimum of three years old.
Inspired by an earlier batch which was awarded a Double Gold at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, 'The Tiger' expression is summed up as sweet & fruity, with maturation in sherry and wine casks. 46% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
