The label features artwork by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai, depicting Mount Fuji from different aspects, in this case, the painting 'Hodogaya on the Tōkaidō'.

The Karuizawa distillery was opened in 1955 in Miyota, near Mt. Asama – an active volcano. Since ceasing production in 2000, it's increasingly rare whiskies have topped the auction charts for returns in the Japanese segment.
