"The Peated" is the latest bottling from Ichiro Akuto at the Chichibu Distillery, which opened in 2008. Distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2012, its phenol level is 51 ppm. Only 5000 bottles produced.

Other reviews... Shows way more oaky thrust than the non-peated version...you can stand your chop sticks up in this one... works so beautifully in so many departments.

... NOSE : There are signs of youth with some yeast/wort. It is also fairly light. Pork rinds, ash and coal, brine, caramel chews, seared scollops. PALATE : Again fairly mellow for 50.5%. Lots of natural caramel, pepper, pork crackling, ash, diesel, lemon, oregano, some candyness, menthol. FINISH : Pork rinds, caramel, menthol, oak, ash/tar, some hot spices then sweet fizzyness.
