Glenfiddich Malt Master's Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

A no age statement release from one of the industry's mega brands. Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman has a natural affinity for innovation. With this, his 'Malt Master’s Edition', he offers the first Glenfiddich to be matured in two different casks - traditional x-Bourbon casks, then Sherry casks, the latter reportedly for around five years. First passings find rich, sweet aromas of glace cherry, vanilla and clove followed by a trace of sulphur. Aeration offers more dried fruit notes that are beautifully integrated into the malt. The palate is sweet and silky, becoming loaded with spices accompanied by firm, drying oak. Traces of malt, vanilla and dried fruit sneak through the finish and aftertaste. More compelling than the standard 12 year old, but overall the profile remains typically Glenfiddich. Bottling at 43% and a longer than expected finishing bring a little extra power. 43% Alc./Vol. Batch 01/11 tasted.

Other reviews... The sherry is big on the nose, with smoldering oak wood underneath. There’s not nearly that much citrus-fueled sherry on the palate, though, with distinct gingerbread character, with a chewy nougat, almost granulated sugar texture to it. Candied cherries give this a fruitcake feeling, along with some caramel and banana notes in the finish. The conclusion calls back to the Bourbon barrel.
