Tasting note: This lesser known classic was first bought to the attention of whisky lovers via the Diageo ‘Flora and Fauna’ collection. A lighter and more elegant side of Speyside, at middle age, Teaninich is an absolute delight. What's so enjoyable about this refill cask is that it's allowed the distillery’s floral-fruity distillate to shine through, with no sweet wine finish getting in the way. Baked apples, ripe pears and vanilla on the nose; the palate is waxy, full and superbly textural. Orchard fruits are followed by a zesty injection of spice and citrus. Ends juicy and tactile. Just twelve years old, but one of the better Teaninichs you're likely to find. From a single x-Bourbon Hogshead yeilding 270 bottles. 58.2% Alc.Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the bottler... Nose: Light and elegant vanilla with a hint of mocha coffee. Palate: Lemon meringue pie, toasted coffee bean, shortbread and exotic floral hints. Finish: Long and lingering, but so gentle and delicate. Lemon zest, white chocolate and exotic Japanese garden-style floral notes.

Edinburgh based, The Whisky Cellar is debuting with a series called the 'Private Cellars' selections. Keeper of the Quaich, Keith Bonnington, leaning on his twenty years in the industry, kick-started the new indie project in 2020 from his home in Edinburgh. An initial outturn of 2100 bottles has been drawn from ten casks, meaning the whiskies are on tight allocation with a small selection of retail partners around the globe. Hogsheads, butts and a quarter cask, chosen by an expert panel ensure a taste profile to suit everyone is on offer. Bonnington's stated intention is to “...bring to market extremely high-quality one-off whiskies which represent good value to the consumer.”
