2007 Single Malts of Scotland Reserve Cask An Orkney Distillery 13 Year Old Parcel No.4 Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Almost certainly from Highland Park, but not confirmed, Jim Murray described a previous batch as "A temperamental dram but when it sparkles it's pure gold." This one's created from three ex-sherry butts filled in 2007 and aged for more than 13 years. Expect an earthy and succulent whisky, infused with gentle smoke and a touch of spice. 48% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from the bottlers... NOSE: Cedar wood and homemade strawberry-and-vanilla jam combine with smoked chimney cake and chocolate-covered raisins. Just-cut lumber lends an earthy sweetness to the aroma. PALATE: Sticky honey is drizzled on sherry trifle, while next, refreshing cranberry juice and oozing strawberry fondant come to the forefront. A little bit of clove spice blends with a penny toffee. FINISH: Orange zest and liquorice appear towards the end, along with a syrupy sweetness. Smooth-yet-spicy 50% cocoa chilli chocolate leaves a lasting impression.
