1998 Lady of the Glen Glen Grant Single Cask #13212 22 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Tasting note: From a 500 litre refill butt. Gregor Hannah is particularly proud of this release as older Glen Grant is a bit of rarity in independent circles. The distillery hasn't been laying down liquid for long periods as demand for its younger stocks has been relentless. This bottling is also unusual because of the cask type - where butts typically imply sherry this was simply a ‘refill butt’, so there's practically no sherry influence. It needs ample breathing to open up the aromas of fruit pastries, red apples and pears and shows surprising freshness for a 22 year old. While slightly less fruity on the palate, it's crisp and concentrated, providing a picture of the original distillate that an active sherry cask might have otherwise obscured. Intense for Glen Grant, water draws out waxy apple and pear. 55.1% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 444 bottles.
Notes from the bottlers... Orange barley sugars, exotic spices and wood shavings.
